Ao no Exorcist

Yukio, Rin and True Cross Academy's Shady Chairman Mephisto Pheles
Ao no Exorcist
"Blue Exorcist"
Episodes: 25 Episodes
Aired: Apr 17, 2011, Oct 2, 2011

Ao no Exorcist is a typical shounen anime that had great potential to be a top tier shounen, but ultimately falls to a little under average.. It started off great, and had high potential, but the plot never really went anywhere and things just didn't make sense plot wise. While the first half was okay the second half with it's fast pacing kinda ruined the series. It's like they just threw stuff after stuff there that wasn't really important and the story had no direction. It only has 25 episodes (pretty short for a shounen) but it managed to give its viewers, pointless filler episodes which leaves little time for the important details.

Young Rin, Young Yukio and their guardian Shirou.

L-R: Konekomaru Miwa, Renzou Shima, Takara Nemu(and his puppet), Ryuuji Suguro, Rin Okumura, Izumo Kamiki and Shiemi Moriyama

The setting is Assiah  which is kinda like our world (mix between fantasy and modern world), where exorcists are real and are treated like the army. The demons reside in a Gehenna (a mirror world of Assiah), the demons were able to pass from Gehenna to Assiah by possessing objects or animals (even humans) that exist on Assiah.

Satan's other offsprings, the mischievous and manipulating  Mephisto Pheles and the childish Amaimon.

Ever heard of a popular german tale about Faust (a human) having a contract with a demon named mephistopheles?

The story revolves around half-demon half-human twins (Rin Okumura and Yukio Okumura). The twins' mother is Yuri Frederick Egin a female exorcist (human) and their father is Satan himself (only Rin inherited Satan's demon powers). Both were adopted  by Shirou Fujimoto a world renowned exorcist. Fujimoto is one of the best exorcist in the world that earned him the title of "Paladin" (Strongest exorcist in the face of the planet). He has managed to shrug off Satan's possession attempts, but one day failed to do so (Kinda Rin's fault since he argued with Fujimoto) which resulted in his death.

Satan-Possessed Shirou covered with Flames

Out of Control Rin (as you can see those blue flames are flames he inherited from Satan)

The brothers, wanting to follow on their step father's footsteps and driven by the desire of exacting revenge on Satan, joined True Cross Academy which is an academy for exorcists (Kinda ironic since both siblings have demon bloods flowing in their veins). This is where their story begins. Like I said earlier, the plot has great potential to be a seriously good shounen anime, but then it sticked to the school setting and never really went far.

Shura Kirigakure and  the "Paladin" Arthur Auguste Angel aka. "Baldy" (Both are ,at present, the top exorcists)

Satan and Yuri's first meeting.

A lot of side characters were introduced (with dedicated episodes for backgrounds) and I kinda like the Idea that each of them had different exorcism skills and specialties but the plot never gave them justice, no character development for them and they never really had the screen time to build some depth on their personalities which leaves them flat and one dimensional. (again wasted potential). For a shounen anime involving demons and exorcist I was expecting more bad-ass enemies but the enemies that were presented were pretty weak and non were really memorable. The monsters and other creatures though were good looking and had good design. The art though was good and consistent.

Yukio, Rin and the adorable Kuro (Shirou's pet cat that was passed on to Rin)

One of the scarier Demons

Though the plot had minimal major events, the whole series was still a good watch for its quality art and animation, good humor and very nice action scenes (though limited). Each episode was still quite enjoyable  and won't really bore you even if most of them were fillers.

30-sai no Hoken Taiiku

30-sai no Hoken Taiiku
"Health Education for 30 year olds"
Episodes: 12
Aired: Apr 7, 2007 - Jun 23, 2011

This is one crazy and outrageous anime. From the title alone I expected something a bit normal like a comedy or education anime within the bounds of reality. But this show defies logic and sense with all its craziness and weird antics.

(Daigorou The God of Sex, can't believe i typed that)
Plot: The story starts off with our main protagonist ,30 year old male virgin (Hayao Imagawa) ,trying to have intercourse with momoko-chan (a sex doll, that's just sad really), when out of nowhere pops out a naked guy (Daigorou a pervert.. err.. the God of Sex). And in Hayao's shock he turns Momoko-chan into the God Board.
(First ep and we already have a casualty, R.I.P. momoko-chan)
(Daigorou teaching things about $#% and @&% and stuff)
At first Hayao was defiant but when Daigorou forces him to do something bad.. really really bad like an %@$& Vacuum, Hayao unsurprisingly quickly had a change of heart.

(Daigorou can't return to heaven unless he accomplish his mission)
(A scene right out of our worsts nightmares)

The plot revolves around Daigorou and little brother Macaron's weird and creepy antics as they try to help Hayao avoid becoming a wizard. The Female protagonist Natsu Andou a virgin herself is in the same boat as our male protagonist as she too gets accompanied by two female Sex Gods. Both pairs of Gods and Goddesses kinda isn't fond of each other.

(The first time our two protagonist meet)

(From Left to Right: Momoko-chan, Daigorou, Hayao, Macaron, Kuu-chan, Andou, Pii-chan)

Our hero and heroine will have to face many challenges before they could become "one". At one point Hayao's hopes of getting past the virgin stage will hit rock bottom when he succumbs to giving up and ended becoming the virgin prince and Andou will let herself really go due to insecurities and stresses of her own.

But all's well that ends well, as the four Gods and Goddesses settle their differences and joined forces to help our two lovebirds muster up the courage to do what they had to do.

(Happy Ending! Hoooray!)
(Hayao and Andou's "fruit" of labor)
Review: It's an okay show to watch if you want a good laugh, the topics aren't really for children but no "ecchi" here, and a lot of things are hilariously censored, muted and blurred. The plot itself is straightforward and light with heavy doses of weirdness and outrageous stuff. If you liked the first episode then expect the same thing for the rest.

My Personal Rating:7/10

The Legend of the Virgin King! (Virgin Ball)

Accel World

Accel World
Episodes: 24
Aired: Apr 7, 2012 - Sep 22, 2012

Plot: Set in 2046, Young Haruyuki Arita "Haru" who is a short chubby junior high student is the primary target for bullies. With his miserable life (in the real world), he blows off steam playing games on the virtual reality and is ridiculously good at it. People have access to this virtual world (kinda like the internet) with the help of a device called Neuro-Linker , everyone has it installed in their necks. Despite being a loner and bully magnet, Arita still has his childhood friends supporting and trying to cheer him up, Chiyuri Kurashima "Chiyu", (She is an annoying character who can't decided between his boyfriend and our MC Arita) and Takumu Mayuzumi "Taku" (Chiyu's boyfriend)

(Taku-chan, Chiyu-chan and Haru-chan)
(Haru's Badass Piglet Avatar)
Kuroyukihime a.ka. Princess Black Snow (Her fascination with Haru will eventually become affection as the story progresses) the popular Student Council Vice Pres. of the same school, discovers Haruyuki's amazing talent in the virtual world and eventually gives him a program called "Brain Burst" w/c gives him access to the "Accelerated World". Now "Burst Linkers" (People who had installed Brain Burst) whenever they choose can accelerate their thought process a thousand times faster than normal people. Meaning a second in the real world is like a thousand seconds for them, making everything around them stop. Haru however will unexpectedly discover that the Brain Burst program, beneath it shell ,is a multiplayer fighting game. He gains a humanoid avatar called silver crow. The plot revolves around him fighting fellow brain bursters (with the guidance and inspiration of kuroyukihime) and climbing up and eventually "flying up" (he'll eventually have access to a skill that is unique to the Accelerated World) to the top of the ladder. A lot is going on with the plot, issues with side characters "Taku", "Chiyu" and the enigma "Kuroyukohime" will keep you busy and entertained. (More Side characters will be introduced as the plot progress). There will be ups and downs for Haru as he tries to evolve from sore loser to be the best at what he does with the help of his friends.

(the Black King = Kuroyukihime)
(Haru seeing his "Silver Crow" avatar for the first time)
Review: The show offers a lot of entertainment, the fighting scenes are good and well-thought-of and there are a lot of characters (though a lot will annoy you w/c is a good thing for villains but bad for side characters). Viewers will be amazed by the well made virtual world that is the "Accelerated World" with all its rules and politics. Character designs are well made, the human counter parts are good but the android looking avatars are really great, colorful and well designed. The plot may sometimes be too shallow or not serious but it is expected from a "shounen" anime and it doesn't really affect the enjoyment that the show brings. It's mild and easy to watch and at the same time has good depth without being too analytic in its plot. If you want a good action shounen with logically well made plot this one is for you.

My Personal Rating: 8/10 Nothing outstanding but will rarely bore you.
